Letter From Recruitment Chair

Hi, Beauties!!

My name is Cameron Simmons. I am the membership director for Phi Mu Gamma Kappa Chapter ~ but don't let that fancy title fool you. Only one short year ago, I was standing in your exact same shoes. I was one of three-hundred plus extremely nervous Potential New Members, or PNMs. Although a bit nervous, I was also bursting with excitement, joy, and curiosity for the journey I was about to begin. Navigating the various events such as Meet the Greeks, Orientation, and Q&A night was difficult at first. However, I dove in head first, pushing myself outside my comfort zone.

From the first day, I fell in love with the entire recruitment process. I quickly realized that everyone, not just me, was nervous, even the sisters. All the sororities welcomed us PNM's with open arms, and I instantly felt at home with UNCW's Panhellenic. I had the opportunity to talk with so many amazing and individually unique women. However, I found myself gravitating toward one specific sorority ~ Phi Mu. I was taken back by the women of this organization. They were uplifting, encouraging, and confidence-boosting, not only to me but to one another. As the days went by, I became more excited. I began to see myself as a Phi Mu sister ~ going to events, raising money for our philanthropy Children's Miracle Network Hospital, and simply hanging out. At that moment, I knew those women were the ones I wanted to surround myself with and call my sisters.

To be a woman of Phi Mu means upholding three core values ~ LOVE, HONOR, and TRUTH. Every single Phi Mu sister embodies these values in one way or another. Not only do we live by them daily, but they are also the three pillars of our creed. Each value wholeheartedly describes what it means to be a Phi Mu. We are more than just the cliche "sorority girls." We are philanthropists, scholars, athletes, and so much more. I can confidently say I am proud to be a part of Phi Mu and am forever grateful they saw potential in a shy, timid girl like myself.

All that aside, it is my hope that each of you falls in love with the recruitment process as much as I did. I hope you feel confident and inspired by the women you meet and make lifelong friends. Take in every moment of the experience because one day, you'll wish you could go back and do it again. However, above all, follow your heart, be yourself, and you will find the right fit!

Best of luck throughout this journey! We are OVERJOYED to meet each and every one of you. We can't wait to see you run to your forever home ~ no matter where that may be!!

XOXO, Cameron Simmons <3
